he boy's mother has died and an imaginary gorilla (representing the heaviness of his grief) accompanies him everywhere - as he tends his mother's garden; flies a kite by the seaside; and swings in the park.

e questions the gorilla and hears wise and comforting responses, like '
No, but she's always with you
' to '
Can't my mom come back home?
' Finally, the child is able to share his grief with his dad and the gorilla is gone.

his is a wonderfully moving book to share with a grieving child and help them to talk about a loss of someone loved.
