The books are illustrated by Spike Gerrell, whose cartoons get the ideas across in an engaging fashion. The cover introduces contents as 'Facts and quizzes to make you smarter about everything!' The authors as coaches cover classes that range from English (including TV soccer commentary) and Math (examining tie breaking rules) to Zoology (the critters behind African team nicknames) and Fashion (including a history of soccer uniforms). There's a quiz at the end of each lesson. Season 1 opened on poop, Season 2 on pee. Season 3 starts with feet (with a bad pun on sole-mates!) The fun continues throughout, but there are serious notes too, as in the intro to Forest Green Rovers, a UK team that 'wants to do things differently by looking after the planet as much as possible.'
