The Soccer School series (aimed at ages seven to ten) is written by Alex Bellos and Ben Lyttleton, and illustrated by Spike Gerrell. Season 1 begins with Where Soccer Explains (Rules) the World. Gerrell's cartoons entertain while getting the notions across.

The cover introduces contents as 'Facts and quizzes to make you smarter about everything!' The authors as coaches cover classes on geography, psychology, art, science, mathematics ... There's a quiz at the end of each lesson. Coaches promise that if studying with them doesn't make you a better soccer player, it will definitely make you a smarter one!

Lessons start with one on poop - who knew that professional players plan their poop before a game? Digestive systems need enough time to do their work. Young readers are taught the language of soccer, phrases like 'bogey team'. There's information on animal mascots, historical ball games, soccer footwear, soccer fields, player philosophy, photography, finances, fashion, and more.

There are even sections on soccer and computer science, and space soccer! Young soccer fans will have a blast reading, learning, and talking about Where Soccer Explains (Rules) the World.
