The bear wanders through the forest asking everyone he/she meets, very politely, if they've seen her/his hat - a fox, a frog, a hare, a turtle, a snake ... No-one has seen the bear's hat. What to do? By this time, most young readers will have noticed the clue the bear missed. When the deer asks, 'What does your hat look like?', all becomes clear and the hat is recovered. Young readers will enjoy the animal encounters and the puzzle - and will especially like solving it before this rather silly bear does.
