any kids (and adults for that matter) are very literal in their thinking, while others are much more imaginative.
Adrian Simcox Does NOT Have a Horse
is a picture book (written by Marcy Campbell, and expressively illustrated by Corinna Luyken) that features such a clash of personalities in a situation that begs for empathy.
A
drian daydreams constantly, and talks incessantly about his wonderful, amazing horse. Some kids believe him but it defies logic to the young narrator, his classmate. After all, she knows he lives in town like she does, but in a very small house with '
hardly any yard.
' She tells her mom, who calls her '
Ms. Smarty-Pants
'.
W
hen she accuses Adrian of lying, it makes him sad. Finally, her mom intervenes and they walk to Adrian's house ... where she starts to see things a little differently. This appealing story will help young readers learn not to judge others quite so readily.
