I love the illustrations, reminiscent of Quentin Blake's work. When a boy wakes up one sunny morning, Granddad announces that 'It's the perfect day for a picnic.' The next two pages show all the provisions that are gathered, from drinks and snacks to sunscreen, compass, binoculars, notebooks and pencils. They set off, with Granddad the navigator, the boy the lookout. The sun beats down, as they continue with regular rest stops. Finally they find ... well, you'll just have to read the book yourself but it's quite something. As Granddad reminds us, 'If you keep looking, you never know what you might find.'
