Here's a different chapter book, Megabat, all about a special friendship - between a lonely boy who hates the house his family has moved to, and the bat accidentally shipped there, who inadvertently scared its inhabitants.

Daniel has the attic bedroom. He hears a voice pleading for buttermelons, and keeps finding a puddle, but his dad insists there's no ghost. The next day he meets the bat who shares his bedroom, but it's not the 'dust-gusting blood-sucking' creature he fears, and the puddle comes from its tears.

While keeping the bat fed with watermelon, Daniel decides he must find a way to get it to its home, so he takes his new friend to the library, where they conclude the bat came from Borneo in a crate labelled 'Papaya Premium'. Research tells him his new buddy is a fruit bat or megabat.

Daniel decides to find a way to get Megabat back home, He has help from his next door neighbor, Talia, in between watching Star Wars movies together (Megabat enjoys them too). There are several false starts before Megabat, after befriending a pigeon, finally finds his way home.

Megabat is cute, rather silly and fun, with 'A muchly happy ending.' And don't miss 'A Little Bit about Bats' at the back of the book.
