L
ola is into dogs. She likes pretending to be one, pretending her brother Charlies is one, or pretending they have a dog of their own. They even talk about what kind they'd like if Mom and Dad were not absolutely against having one.
M
om and Dad offer a rabbit instead, and Lola agrees to go with Dad to the pet shop, even though she has no interest in a rabbit. She and Charlie continue to discuss ideal doggy attributes, like '
nice ears
'. (Their sibling dialogue is what makes this picture book so appealing.)
S
o, will Lola end up with the dog she wants, you wonder? Well, she does have a pet by the end of this endearing picture book, and it does have
very
nice ears.
