A
uthor Joe Hill is considered one of America's finest horror writers. With
Strange Weather
, he presents four short novels in that genre.
S
napshot
is the first of this quartet of stories. An adolescent is followed by a heavily tattooed thug with a unique Polaroid – each time the camera snaps, the boy realizes it destroys a memory! Clever? Darn right.
Aloft
gives the reader a chance to share the experience of a first parachute jump with a young man who is terrified of heights. Making the jump with trepidation, he lands on a solid cloud, with no way off. His experience is like no other.
R
ain
will make the reader cautious about going out in even a sprinkle of moisture from the sky, let alone a downpour. Shredded clothes and skin could result.
Loaded
finds a security guard stopping what appears to be a mass murder. He is declared a hero. But things are not always what they seem.
E
ach of these four stories is a gem, altogether different from the other three, exemplifying the talent of their single author. While I am not a regular consumer of horror stories,
Strange Weather
should satisfy those who enjoy the imaginations of a born storyteller.
