W
e read about Harriet Tubman, Helen Keller, Clara Lemlich, Nellie Bly, Virginia Apgar, Maria Tallchief, Claudette Colvin, Ruby Bridges, Margaret Chase Smith, Sally Ride, Florence Griffith Joyner, Oprah Winfrey, and Sonia Sotomayor. Hillary Clinton is not mentioned, though perhaps she should be, and her portrait does appear in a picture gallery.
Y
oung readers are encouraged to push back when told their dreams are too big and persist like these women did. This is an important picture book, but how about another that covers persistent women all over the world?
