This is a review of a READ TOGETHER/DO TOGETHER picture book for Texas, but if you live in other states, Arcadia Kids Publishing offers books for those states too, so read on.

If you have roots in Texas, you'll love Lucky to Live in Texas. This book is not just about Texas, but about the little Texan who lives there. This personalized memory book begins with 'a picture of me.'

The left-hand pages contain many of the things that make the Lone Star State special, inviting conversation and encouraging future investigation. The right-hand pages offer opportunities for the reader to add things that are specific to him or her.

The joy of this book is its interactive nature. The book touches on many things in short bites, but it leaves so much opportunity for discussion and sharing every time you pick it up, that you'll never get tired of it. There's a left-hand page for Texas heroes and another with a little history and geography. Texas music and cuisine are there, plus Texas celebrations and meeting your neighbors. All have right-hand pages for the reader to add their experiences.

Texas sports teams have their own special place with a page for the reader's drawing of a favorite team's T-shirt. Texas wildlife is covered, because Texas is home to critters your reader will love and want to protect. The last two pages include instructions on making a personal ten-year time capsule.

Arcadia Kids hit the ball out of the park with these picture books. They are advertised for children ages four to seven years old, but I think older children will enjoy them, too. For more information on other states, check their website.
