Wolfie
' Wolfman follows her own drummer - I like this girl! She has no interest in clothes or friends, wears the same thing every day, and avoids social occasions. But she does find companionship in this early reader,
Wolfie & Fly
(aimed at ages 7 to 10).

ome alone one day, Wolfie embarks on a new project using a big cardboard refrigerator box. She turns it into a submarine. Then the doorbell rings - it's their new neighbor, Livingston (called '
Fly
' at school), desperate to escape his big brother, who threatened to destroy his guitar. Reluctantly she lets him in.

ou can see where this is going, can't you? Fly makes up a song for Wolfie, they bond over submarine enhancements; and travel through the ocean together. They even recover Fly's brother's baseball, and defy Pirate Bob. Though Wolfie insists they're still not friends, when they're together '
who knows what might happen?
