The Muppets
and
Sesame Street
? Here's a picture book about their creator, one of a biography series about ordinary heroes, that inspires kids to dream big.
I am Jim Henson
is written by Brad Meltzer and illustrated (in striking comic/graphic novel format) by Christopher Eliopoulos.
I
n it, we watch Henson grow up. He loved kooky words; laughing; Saturday movies; imaginative play with friends; art projects with his grandmother; and performing. When television was invented and his family bought one, he knew he wanted to work in the new medium. He became a puppeteer and persisted through rejections till the Muppets were born. And he practiced and practiced and practiced.
O
f course, we all know his dream was realized and the debut of
Sesame Street
is shown here too. '
It taught kids how to share, how to take turns, and how to get along.
' We all laughed a lot, but it also made us think a lot. This is a lovely little book, filled with wonderful messages and life lessons. Share it with someone you love.
