The Tale of Kitty-in-Boots    by Beatrix Potter Order:  USA  Can Penguin, 2016 (2016) Hardcover, CD, e-Book      Reviewed by Hilary Williamson The Tale of Kitty-in-Boots was actually written by Beatrix Potter (in 1914), but she never got around to illustrating it. Now we have a version illustrated (rather edgily compared to the usual Potter) by well-known artist Quentin Blake. It opens, 'Once upon a time there was a serious, well-behaved young black cat' who belonged to a kind old lady who worried about her kitty's welfare. Kitty called herself Miss Catherine St. Quintin (Q to her feline friend Cheesebox) and loved to go a-hunting at night. The story details her adventures mousing (unsuccessfully) with an air-gun, scratching poaching ferrets, and chasing a rabbit, only to be trapped - by Mr. Tod the fox - and saved by Miss Squintums, the hedgehog. She did learn her lesson though, vowing 'Never again will I poach'. It's a charming tale, especially for cat lovers. And, as a wonderful bonus, the book comes with an audio CD, read by one of my favorite actresses, Helen Mirren! What more could you want?
