All animals have special feet and legs adapted to their lifestyle. For example, frogs who live in water have webbed hind feet. It's like wearing flippers all the time. Their powerful legs and webbed feet propel them quickly through the water if they need to make a fast getaway or catch their next meal.

Not all frogs need webbed feet. Those who live on land do not. For example the tree frog, which lives in the woods, has round sticky toe pads that help him climb trees. Insects have also made fascinating adaptions. Did you know that mosquitoes, houseflies, and butterflies taste with their feet? So do most spiders.

Mary Holland's photos of various creatures demonstrate the many different shapes and sizes of feet and legs in nature. Close-ups shots of various feet show details. Holland is a naturalist, a wildlife photographer and columnist.

Although, this is a book about animal legs, the beautiful photos and amazing facts may be a great jumping off place to learn about some of the creatures mentioned. The book also includes four pages of activities, with more available online at ArbordalePublishing.com.
