I
've long enjoyed Kelley Armstrong's work from her
Women of the Otherworld
books to her more recent
Cainsville
novels and her various YA series. Now, in
Otherworld Chills
, she brings fans a collection of seven novellas and short stories that add new dimensions to many already familiar characters.
I
n
Brazen
, werewolf Nick Sorrentino deals with unfinished Pack business, the hunt for psychotic Malcolm Danvers, estranged father of the former Pack Alpha. Nick works with Vanessa Callas, a senior member of Rhys Smith's supernatural mercenary team, and attraction flares between them.
I
n
Chaotic
, after half-demon tabloid reporter Hope's dull date at a museum gala is interrupted by disturbingly gory visions (her mind is a
chaos receiver
), she begins to doubt the task she has taken on for the interracial council. Fortunately for her, Marsten (a dark and handsome werewolf) has her back.
I
n
Amityville Horrible
, after necromancer Jaime Vegas takes on a reality ghost show for a Cotard's syndrome charity, she's haunted by the spirits of murdered young women - but is it real or a scam?
I
t's all about vampires in
Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word
. Elder vampire/antiques dealer Cassandra DuCharme approaches vamp Zoe Takano with an offer to serve on the council. And Zoe sets up a sting involving immortality questers, in order to get a long overdue apology.
O
ff-Duty Angel
stars '
dark witch, half-demon, part-time ghost, part-time angel
' Eve Levine negotiating with the Fates and hunting with her angel partner in the '
bowels of the Great Library.
'
The Puppy Plan
is a sweet story starring young werewolf Logan's choice of a Christmas gift for his sister. And in
Baby Boom
, Lucas Cortez's dad Benicio presses Lucas and Paige to have a child.
I
enjoyed all these entertaining stories, but would recommend the collection mainly to the legion of established
Otherworld
fans who already have some familiarity with the characters.
