Trapped!: A Whale's Rescue    by Robert Burleigh & Wendell Minor Order:  USA  Can Charlesbridge, 2016 (2016) Hardcover, e-Book     Reviewed by Bob Walch Based on a real ocean rescue, this picture book provides an account of how a humpback whale is freed from a fishing net, in which it becomes entangled. Once the whale becomes caught in the web of the abandoned net the creature begins to struggle to get free but that only makes the situation worse. Fortunately, in this instance a marine rescue group finds the whale and sets about the task of freeing the humpback. Divers enter the water and carefully begin to cut the lines, but it is a slow and dangerous task that isn't always successful. Thankfully, in this case, all goes well and soon the large mammal is free and able to continue on its way. As well as the narrative and excellent illustrations provided by Wendell Minor, this book offers additional information about whales and the websites of the organizations dedicated to rescuing them when they get into trouble. This would be an excellent addition to any natural history library and will heighten a child's knowledge of whales and the problems they face while swimming off our shores.
