Daisy Dobbs isn't overly thrilled to discover that she's about to be sent off to London to work in a fancy house as a maid, but the young girl goes without complaining. Her family needs the money and Daisy is old enough now to help with household expenses.

Although she works hard, Daisy makes some mistakes and doesn't really show that this is the right life for her but she perseveres. Fortunately the two women who employ her have a library, and allow the young girl to read whatever she can find.

Then one day Daisy's life changes when a near disaster strikes the house where she works and the girl averts a major fire. What happens next makes for a heartwarming story and one young readers will enjoy. Daisy is rewarded for her bravery in a manner she could have never imagined.

For children five years of age and older, this picture book presents a story that youngsters should find interesting. Set in the early 1900s, Daisy's adventure is both heartwarming and utterly engaging.
