I
n a way Bob is like every other dog. He loves his breakfast, likes to go for a ride in the car, to toss a ball around with Dad, take naps, and dig for bones.
W
hen a neighbor shows off her dog's tricks, Bob just watches as the dog catches a stick,
barks
when asked to speak, and sits on command. The neighbor smugly declares her dog
the winner.
B
ob's family know he's the smartest dog in the world, but they don't like to brag. They don't mention that Bob is the family's short order cook at breakfast or their chauffeur when they go for a drive, or that Bob's idea of playing ball is with Dad on the golf course, and his idea of digging for bones is finding dinosaur bones with his paleontologist friend. In fact, Bob can speak, just not on command. He waits until he has something to say.
B
ob
is
a winner. I hope writer and illustrator, Richard Torrey comes up with more books on this clever pup.
