H
owling Hill is the special domain of a group of wild critters that range from wolves, boars, foxes and bears to owls and squads of flying insects. All was well in the area until one night something terrible happened. A rumble, roar and bright light announced the arrival of an uninvited guest.
N
ot sure what the '
big blue thing
' was, the animals went into hiding. But then, since it didn't leave, they decided to scare it away. The wolves howled, the bears growled, and the boars tried to shove and push the thing. But it didn't budge.
I
t took the owls to devise a game plan enlisting the forest's smallest creatures that finally turned the trick and forced the interloper to leave.
T
he intruder here is a VW camper and this is something many adults will relate to. Youngsters today may not appreciate the irony of this aspect of the picture book but they will still love the humorous dilemma of how the animals approach their
problem
and how it is resolved.
I
love picture books that operate on both an adult and a child's level. This is one that youngsters three and older will like and their parents will get a few chuckles as well.
