This installment of the History's All-Stars series introduces young readers, eight to twelve years old, to the young Abraham Lincoln. The story begins when Abe is about five years old, and follows his life until his election and re-election as President.

The chapters are accompanied by pen and ink drawings that complement the story. I enjoyed the short break from reading to examine the drawings. As I read I had a visual image in my mind of the story and the drawings helped to solidify my imaginings. I'm guessing other readers do the same!

I found interesting facts about Lincoln's life that I hadn't previously known. Did you know that Lincoln's own son was saved by the brother of the man who assassinated Lincoln? How interesting! Parents, you may just want to borrow this book from your children and read it yourself when the kids are asleep. Or better yet, read this with your kids at bedtime.

Although this does seem to be a formula book, the stories vary because the childhoods and lives of each famous person featured are different, of course. This, in turn, will keep readers' interest up.

The only downside to the story is that it ends just after Lincoln's re-election as president and does not cover his assassination at all. Because of this, the ending does seem to be rather abrupt. Overall, I did like this book, as well as the series, more than I expected.
