he story of Little Woolly does a good job of introducing children to the extinct Woolly Mammoths. Little Woolly is just beginning to realize there is a world beyond where she lives with her mother and aunties. She feels safe as their voices rumble and vibrate the ground. Safe enough to chase a frog and try to touch it with her trunk. Safe enough to investigate the rolling river alone.

hen she tumbles off the glacier into the river, she goes on an adventure that takes her past other extinct animals from the Ice Age. In the end she finds her way home by following the rumbling of her herd.
T
his sweet book is written and illustrated by Andrea Gabriel. Illustrations of the animals in Woolly's world include saber-toothed cats, short faced bears, ground sloths, giant beavers and of course mammoths.
I
n addition to the story, an additional section For
Creative Minds
includes Ice Age Sequencing, a comparison of the mammoth and their currently living relative, the elephant, and the Clovis People, some of the first humans in North America. Publisher links include even more activities.
