H
ere's a very good pre-level one reader for a child ready to begin reading along with mom or dad. Brownie and her kitten, Pearl, go out for a little drive in Brownie's pink car. They drive out to collect all the letters at the mailbox and then deliver them to Mom.
W
hen they are all finished, Pearl doesn't want to get out of the car, so Brownie comes up with an idea. She goes into the house to get some treats because she knows how much her kitty likes takeout!
S
hort sentences and a simple vocabulary make this a little story any beginning reader can master quickly. Having success early is the key to making the child comfortable with the process and making the youngster want to continue to read on his/her own.
T
he only downside here is that the paperback does have a bit of an inky or chemical smell that, hopefully, will dissipate with time.
