Its many activities will also hone the observation skills of the young bird watcher. Special boxes located throughout the book encourage the child to 'Try This!' and there are also 'Look For' and 'Listen For' activities. For example, one 'Try This!' activity explains how to find out what kind of seeds attract birds to the backyard. One of the 'Look For' activities outlines how to find evidence that a bird has been hanging around a particular area. The color photography that accompanies the narrative is excellent, while all the information on birds will make any youngster interested in birds far more knowledgeable than he/she is now. You'll also find a glossary, bird orders and scientific names, and a listing of bird and wildlife organizations here as well. Part of the Young Naturalist series, this book would be a great resource for teachers and parents who are home schooling their child or children.
