They are loyal, loving, forgiving, and the best listeners that you will ever come across. Not only that, they are cute too! Once forgotten about by his keeper (the youngest of the Easterling clan, Annaliese), Throckmorton thought he would be living the rest of his sock monkey life in a smelly old fishing net, squished by other stuffed toys, never to be loved, or love, again. But one day a letter arrives and the ever-smiling monkey is reunited with the young girl. Over the course of her lifetime, Great-Grandmama Easterling has made forty-nine sock monkeys, one for each new family member. And now, to celebrate her ninetieth birthday Great-Grandmama has invited each sock monkey and his or her keeper to her party. And her last creation, Throckmorton, could not be happier. Annaliese learns the secret of each of the Easterling sock monkeys, a secret that could very well destroy each and every smiling one. Until now, I never did like sock monkeys. But Throckmorton's sweet demeanor and good heart melted my own. This charming story with its cute drawings appearing throughout this chapter book will appeal to readers aged eight to twelve and is a good book for mom and dad to borrow too! Perhaps you will have to go out and find a Throckmorton of your own to love ... I know I do!
