Each section of the book begins with a full page color reproduction of a major piece of art. The places featured range from van Gogh's bedroom and a landscape by Cubist artist Juan Gris to a New York cityscape by Stuart Davis and an aboriginal dot painting. Accompanying each work of art, you'll find information about the artist/piece of art and questions that will draw the viewer into the work. Then flip the flap and you'll discover an assignment and instructions for creating a similar painting. The illustrated instructions are general enough that there is room for individual interpretation, yet specific enough so that the youngster has a framework to follow. The possibilities for how this book can be used in an art program or at home are endless. A creative adult can use this book - and the other two in the series, that focus on animals and people - to create a fascinating art unit.
