Digby takes good care of his older car and likes to go for drives in the countryside, Digby at the wheel and Percy taking in the sights. One day Digby and Percy, out for a drive, run into trouble. The trusty car breaks down! And Digby's neighbor, Lou Ella, whizzes by in her new car without even offering to help the broken-down duo. Later, Lou Ella even teases Digby about his car! With the big car race coming up, Digby needs to get his car in tip-top shape. Lou Ella is convinced she will win in her new car. Race day arrives and Lou Ella is off to a fantastic start. From Didsworth to Dodsworth it is nothing but adventure for Digby and Percy as they wind through the roads and around the hills. Is Lou Ella undefeatable, will Digby and Percy triumph, or will someone else win? I will not tell! You will just have to pick up this wonderfully illustrated chapter book and read for yourself. Shirley Hughes wrote this delightful tale and her daughter, Clara Vulliamy, did the adorable illustrations. I also enjoyed the interview with Digby at the start of the book and, the map of Digby's world, including Didsworth and Dodsworth, as well as Percy's fun games that you can play in the car.
