I
was a little disappointed in this book because I had hoped it would deliver more content rather than just give a general view of how money came to be used and how the banking system evolved. Perhaps I expected too much and, I admit, that may be my problem. On the other hand, readers nine years of age and older can handle more demanding content.
T
he information on antiquity and how various forms of money replaced bartering is fairly sound. But when the author makes the transition to loans, the need for record keeping, and eventually a banking system, there are some quantum leaps and any reader who is paying attention will probably have a lot of questions.
A
s a general introduction, this book with its uninspired illustrations is passable but if your child has a report to give or is doing research on money and related topics, you'd be better served to find something with more information and hard facts.
