The change in Old Cat, from fighting tom, to this loving, playful animal was almost like a miracle. And Joel had not only watched it happen, but had helped to bring it about.

A
s you read this chapter book for readers eight and older you'll see just how an old cat with an attitude was transformed by a young boy into a docile and remarkably affectionate feline. It takes the boy, Joel, time and patience to bring Old Cat around but the youth succeeds.
U
nfortunately, the story ends on a sad but realistic note when Joel must move away and he can't take his new friend with him.
T
his reissue is on its way to
classic
status and anyone who loves cats will find this a special read. Be forewarned, though; there isn't a sugar-coated, sweet ending. It is sad!
