A black rat (rattus rattus) introduces herself, explaining that she 'is usually much bigger (and meaner) than a mouse.' She tells us how useful her tail is; describes her athletic abilities and incisors; and explains what she likes to eat and how intelligent (and like us) she is. Gravel's rat has plenty of attitude, which the bold illustrations convey very well. Her book is informative and fun.
