t is a beautiful summer's day so Boy and Girl are planning a picnic. On their way, Boy and Girl meet Sheep, Pig and Duck. '

lthough they find the perfect place for their picnic, the group of friends don't realize that there's a not so friendly bull in the pasture that will force everyone to run and hide in the nearby forest.
F
rom that point on it is a pretty simple tale with shared food and games. Burningham makes the story more interesting, though, by adding an interactive element where the young reader is challenged to find various items like a scarf, hat and ball hidden away in some of the illustrations.
C
harming with an understated story,
Picnic
will appeal to young children (ages 2-5) who will find this a good book with which to practice their emerging reading skills. Because it's also a fun story with appealing characters, you'll find this book way up there on the
re-read
list too.
