ou'll find 36 very short poems here written by an array of individuals. Divided up into the seasons, the poems include
Fog
by Carl Sandburg,
Dust of Snow
by Robert Frost,
Between Walls
by William Carlos Williams,
Subway Rush Hour
by Langston Hughes and
Window
by Carl Sandburg.

ecause the poetry is short and contains vivid images which the art reinforces, this collection of poetry might be a good way to introduce a child to verse. Although the intended age group is preschool to grade three, I really believe this book would be more appropriate for older children.
I
would set this out in a classroom setting and see what happens. Would class members pick it up and thumb through it? Would they want to take it home? Would some children actually return to it and want to read it again?

ou can't force a love or appreciation of poetry. When the individual is ready (no matter his or her age), that person will connect with what's on the page. These short poems might well be that initial connection for a young person.
