Why, he's the rippingest, roaringest Squidlegger in the scrintalberry swamp.' That's the story's little hero's daytime persona. But at night ... well, at night Hamilton's not quite so brave. Afraid there might be a frackensnapper, a skelecragon or even a bracklesneed lurking near his mud (yes, that's mud ... squidleggers don't sleep in beds), Hamilton is quite unsettled. Trying to help his son overcome his bedtime angst, Hamilton's father offers him a mouth watering double-decker grasshopper worm cake with snake belly frosting (oh yum!) if the little fella will just remain in his mud all night. Can Hamilton do it? You'll have to read this silly but delightful story to find out. What follows shows just how bizarre little Hamilton's imagination can be, but with the author's wonderful, somewhat surreal illustrations and his equally wild storytelling skills, this tale works admirably. Children three years and older will love the nonsense words (think Dr. Suess), colorful critter illustrations and flights of fancy this picture book features. A couple of fold outs make this book even more fun. And, if your little squidlegger needs help overcoming his or her bedtime fears, this book may help (as long as there is the possibility of a piece of wormcake in the morning!)
