ooray! This Anthony Browne classic is back in print to celebrate its 30th anniversary. Named
The Best Illustrated Children's Book of the Year
by the
New York Times Book Review
when it first appeared, this is the story of a little girl who loves gorillas.
U
nfortunately, Hannah has never seen a living example of her favorite animal and her father is too busy to take her to the zoo. Then, on her birthday, something extraordinary occurs to Hannah and her wish is granted.
T
his is a wonderful story with detailed illustrations (take a careful look at some of the little things that are easy to miss the first time through the book) that will also have a subtle message for some older readers. Perhaps Hannah doesn't realize it, but she is living with a gorilla of sorts and just doesn't know it! (At least, that's my interpretation, and I'm sticking with it!)
