polar bear cub that loses his mother wouldn't be expected to last long. When a villager realizes a dead polar bear is a nursing female he searches for the cub and finds him in a nearby icy den. He snowmobiles the cub to his village where villagers attempt to feed him milk. They name the cub Kali, pronounced Cully.
W
hen the villagers realize Kali needs a different kind of milk, they send him to a wildlife vet. The vet says the cub is approximately three months old and is healthy enough to be sent to the Alaska Zoo. There the hungry cub is bottle fed fatty puppy formula mixed with whipped cream.

ali will grow into the largest land carnivore on the continent. He grows rapidly, transferring from a baby bottle to solid food like salmon and polar bear nuggets. He finds friendship and a permanent home with Luna, another polar bear cub, at the Buffalo Zoo in New York.

ali's journey is told in text and beautiful photographs. At the end of the story, polar bear facts are offered in an interesting way with additional photos and a map of their habitat.
