I
f you are looking for a good introduction to forests and the types of trees, plants and animals you will find in this habitat, I'd recommend this book. Not only is the difference between deciduous and evergreen explained but you'll find representative leafs from some of the common trees such as the oak, beech, chestnut and poplar.
L
ooking at the forest floor you'll discover illustrations of representative wildflowers (foxglove, bluebells, wood anemone, etc.) and other plants (fruits and mushrooms) plus a sampling of insects. The authors also touch upon the way forests protect mountains by holding down topsoil and blocking avalanches during the winter.
T
his very sturdy book features transparent pages and a ring binding which means it will stand up to hard use. This would be an excellent way of introducing a study unit on trees or the importance of forests.
