This informative book's alliterative subtitle – 'The Weird & Wild Ways Your Body Deals with Agonizing Aches, Ferocious Fevers, Lousy Lumps, Crummy Colds, Bothersome Bites, Breaks, Bruises & Burns & Makes Them Feel Better!' broadcasts just about everything you need to know about Ouch!

There are so many things that can bother the body and cause discomfort, if not outright pain, that this is a pretty lengthy book. Some of the areas the author covers include what kinds of conditions or situations can make the body feel bad and what can be done to improve the situation.

This book hopefully will provide some comfort for hurting children by explaining different ways they can get injured and sick, how their bodies work, and what their parents and doctors can do to make them feel better. From upset tummies, sore throats, earaches and allergies to infections and poison ivy, a number of medical maladies are covered here.

The What You Can Do ... section that accompanies each condition is not a substitute for seeking medical advice, but it does offer a few timely and rather simplistic tips. For example, the author suggests you prevent allergies by avoiding whatever it is you are allergic to and the best way to avoid getting a fever is to 'keep your immune system strong so you don't get sick in the first place.' Hmm, now that's really helpful!

Featuring lots of illustrations and photos, this book will help a child understand how the body works and what can make a person sick, but this provides a rudimentary introduction to the topic and nothing more.
