This activity book that comes with double-sided crayons might be just what you are looking for. Featuring Mike the Knight and his friends, this coloring/activity book has large illustrations that can be colored as well as activities such as connect the dots, decorating a Christmas tree, and making your own tree ornaments. Since the book comes with crayons you don't have to purchase any extra art supplies. This would be an excellent book to travel with in the event that weather delays or long flights mean your child will be getting restless. Grandparents might want to get a copy also so they have something to keep a grandchild busy.
