M
y name is Maude. You probably know that already if you looked at the title of this picture book. I live in a family where everyone tries really hard to be noticed. I mean really noticed!
M
y mother makes a big, bold statement with the flamboyant hats she wears that just shout, '
Hey look at me!
' My dad has a moustache that is so long and twirly that butterflies like to perch on it. His moustache just shouts, '
Can you top this?
'
T
hen there are my brothers and sisters. You don't even want to know how they attract attention. I seem to be the family oddball. Why? Because I don't make a spectacle of myself. On the contrary, I usually just try to blend into my surroundings. Why, when I was in the school play I was so inconspicuous that everyone thought I was part of the scenery.
Y
ou are probably wondering what my story is all about. Well if you keep reading you'll discover halfway through my book that I received a very special birthday gift one day. I wanted a goldfish but my family gave me a tiger. They thought that when I took my new pet for a walk everyone would look at me since he was such an eye-catching creature.
T
he tiger did attract a lot of strange looks, but suddenly one day we ran out of tiger food and ... well, let's just say things suddenly got very interesting at out house!
S
ome people call my story a
cautionary tale
because of what happened next. I'll let you read all about it but, as you'll see, sometimes blending in comes in rather handy! If you are a person who craves attention, you might want to read my story very carefully!
