L
ing and Ting are celebrating their birthday. They receive a special package in the mail that contains two pairs of shoes: one red pair and the other, green. Young readers will enjoy how the girls decide who gets each pair. Next, it is time for the twins to birthday shop. Ling and Ting each buy a gift for the other, but decide to wait until later to give their presents.
T
he birthday girls each bake cakes, but only one of the cakes tastes good, which is another problem for the twins to solve. Then it is time to light the candles and make wishes before blowing them out, but the blowing and wishing do not go quite as expected. Finally, it is time to open presents. Ting and Ling's gift exchange unfolds surprisingly, including Ling reading aloud a book, a great way to bring this story to a close.
L
ing & Ting Share a Birthday
, the second book of the
Ling & Ting
series, is a continuation of the wonderful adventures that these lovable Chinese-American twins enjoy and how they work through their various situations. Lin's simple text, together with her colorful gouache illustrations has produced a charming multicultural story, designed specifically for early readers.
