'I found a big ball, and it was so fun! And then a big guy came – and-and-and-HE TOOK MY BALL! I am so upset,' Piggie tells her friend. Always willing to look out for Piggie's interests, Gerald says, 'WELL, I AM BIG TOO! I will get your big ball from that big guy!' Does he come back with the ball? Well, not exactly. Discovering that the individual who took Piggie's ball is quite large (in fact, he's 'BIGGY-BIG, BIG') the well meaning elephant comes back empty handed (or should that be trunked?) What's more, that very large individual follows Gerald. Being a whale, the very large individual is quite unhappy because no one will play with him. Piggie and Gerald prove more than willing to try playing with the sad whale but how does one play ball with a whale? Good question! Being enterprising and clever creatures, Piggie and Gerald figure something out and, as a result, everyone has a whale of a good time. The Elephant & Piggie series already has reached classic status thanks to Mo Willems' understated sense of humor. This wonderful odd couple has been a hit with children and adults alike.
