olly O'Doon has a bright red, shiny balloon. The little girl decides to tie a note on a string attached to her balloon and then send it heavenward. Off the red balloon goes above the trees and houses. It floats over the sea and all through the night.

hen, quite magically, the red balloon floats back to Molly's neighborhood and, accompanied by little blue birds, it settles to earth where a cat snags it with his paws. Katie McCloat retrieves the balloon and finds the note.

he note reads: '
What's your town like? Do you have a bike? Tell me about where you are.
'

erhaps the most surprising thing of all is that the note's sender wrote her address. And guess what? Molly lives in the house right next to Katie! What a surprise! Katie's family has just moved into the house and now she already has a new friend!

hildren four years of age and older will enjoy this rhymed whimsical story about two little girls whose friendship begins with the flight of a red balloon.
