As you turn the pages you'll meet a puffer fish, octopus, killer whale, lots of barnacles and horsehoe crabs, and a sweetlips fish. You'll also find a poem about amoeba and one that explains the difference between a crocodile and alligator. One of my favorite poems is entitled Jellyfish. 'Jellyfish ... oh, yuck - / A nettlesome bunch of bad luck; / A tentacled thing that carries its sting./ In a mass of gelatinous muck.' There's also a very short verse on herring. 'Herring fish can travel far, / Here's some pickled in this jar!' Young children will have fun exploring the secrets of the deep as they read these poems that are meant to elicit a chuckle or two.
