Ben Aaronovitch sets his popular London constable/sorcerer's apprentice Peter Grant and the rest of the investigative crew to work again solving a murder that even brings the FBI into the case.

It all begins when a body is discovered at the far end of the London Baker Street tube station. The dead man is an exchange student and the young man's wealthy and politically powerful family wants some answers to who committed the crime and why.

Getting to the bottom of this murder is going to entail not only the use of all of Grant's powers (human and otherwise) but much of the investigation is going to center on the subterranean world of London's subway and sewer systems.

Since Inspector Nightingale, the last registered wizard in England, is tied up with the hunt for a rogue magician known as 'the Faceless Man', Grant will be partially on his own. Actually, because of the victim's family connections the Americans have sent over an attractive agent to help out in the case. But the born-again Christian may take a dim view of some of her colleague's methods. My goodness, what good fun!

Peter Grant made his debut in Midnight Riot and then appeared again in Moon Over Soho. It looks like we are in for a steady diet of Grant adventures now and that's just fine with his growing fan club. Not only is this a highly entertaining series, but, as one critic explained, here's what might happen if Harry Potter decided to join the London police force!
