Standing or sitting still is very hard for him. If he doesn't learn this skill, he won't be able to feed himself. That isn't a problem while he is in his nest because his parents bring fish to their little ones. However, it is a problem to his brother and sister who hate his hopping around and squawking. When the time comes to fly, Henry is very good at flying, but he doesn't stay with his mother. He flies off to see things on his own. When he becomes hungry, he can't find his mother and brother and sister. Catching his own food is a challenge because he's so impatient. Fortunately, he meets a King Heron who shares his secret for standing absolutely still. Children love learning about animals and nature. Perhaps they've never seen a heron except in a book. Along with Christina Wald's excellent illustrations, Donna Love's simple story introduces children of five and up to this wetlands bird.
