Paris: A 3D Keepsake Cityscape    by Sarah McMenemy Order:  USA  Can Candlewick, 2012 (2012) Hardcover      Reviewed by Bob Walch Although this book may have been intended for a younger audience (children 5 and older), I think many adults, especially teachers, will find it of interest. Nestled inside a small box, the 3D cityscape opens accordion style and then can be set out on a table. Cleverly paper engineered, the foldout features a dozen Paris landmarks, such as the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame de Paris, the Louvre and the famous Moulin Rouge. Each pop-out landmark also is accompanied by a short description of what it is. One way to enjoy this novelty book is to open it up and set it out on a table for the family to enjoy. On the other hand, slipping it back into the box after viewing it will probably extend its lifespan. Just be careful so the fold-out elements aren't bent or torn because if they are damaged, getting the whole thing back into the container will be a challenge. As a former teacher I can see where this would be a wonderful classroom display that would really capture the students' attention. It would be the ideal way of showing some of the city's key landmarks before discussing them in a geography lesson. Also, if you are planning a family trip to Paris this would be a very good way of showing your children what they can expect to see when the family arrives in the City of Light. This is a very clever little book that can be enjoyed on many levels. If you collect paper engineered volumes, this is book you'll certainly want to get too.
