One look at this Read and Wonder book and the youngster will be hooked. Who doesn't love pirates? And once the child begins looking at the illustrations here, it's all but certain he or she will want to tackle the text too. The short, two page chapters address a range of topics from women pirates, pirate flags, and treasure chests to pirate havens, life at sea, and pirate hunters. Fact boxes, diagrams and a glossary of terms will provide the young reader with enough material about pirate life that the child will hopefully want to move on to a longer book dealing with the same subject. With its longer sentences and more sophisticated vocabulary, a level four book like this is designed for the child who is pretty much ready to read alone or with just a little help from someone else.
