his simple board book pictures things you'd find at the beach. An umbrella, some balls, lifeguard chairs, flip-flops, and surfboards are just some of these items. Whether it is a number of leaping dolphins, star fish or red crabs, the idea, of course, is to count what you see on each page.
A
t the back of the book is the
Let's Talk
section which features a series of questions about each of the pictured objects. For example, '
What color is this umbrella? What is your favorite color? Can you walk like a crab?
' are some of the questions you can use to engage the youngster in a conversation.
T
his is a good idea because no text accompanies the illustrations so this is purely a picture/counting book. Frankly, though, I think probably any creative parent can come up with a better set of questions that will engage the child. When you turn to the page with six pails, try asking '
What do you see in the pail?
' From there you can move on to '
What else can you carry in a pail?
' or '
What other toys can you play with at the beach?
'
