his unusual alphabet book showcases the antics of a little, cute puppy who sees a fresh apple pie sitting on the kitchen table. The poor little fellow is determined to get a taste of the treat.

jump up for it
', but the little girl who made it is just as determined to see that he is '
kept away from it
'. Poor pup! Now she points to the kitchen door and he must '
leave without it
'. Now the dog is '
miserable
' but he is '
not giving up
'.

s you can see, the flow of the limited text highlights the letters of the alphabet in such a manner that the young reader is learning his or her ABCs as the tale of the pup and his attempts to get at the apple pie unfolds.

s the little fellow successful? Of course, the resolute puppy will find a way to achieve his goal which means '
yum yum!
' and then he'll fall asleep in a chair and dream - '
z-z-z-z-z-z
'!

he illustrations are simple but eye appealing and the clever text draws the young reader in, making this volume a welcome departure from the usual type of ABC book where various objects are pictured and named.
