fter Cody runs his dog Champ through the paces of training for the
agility show
, the boy and his dog take a rest. While rubbing Champ's furred belly, Cody finds a strange lump. After an examination by the veterinarian, the diagnosis is cancer. She explains that '
Like people, a dog's body is made of tiny blobs called cells. Sometimes these cells grow the wrong way and make the body sick.
' The vet explains to Cody that Champ will have good weeks and bad weeks. Cody at first blames himself as he begins to think maybe he fed Champ something that caused the illness.
